The Ogulin region lies near the north-eastern border area of the Dinaric Alps. Geological factors were crucial in shaping the present relief. The prominent limestone-dolomite substrate, the permeable terrain, vertical circulation of water and its scarcity and the representation of the relevant karts forms have not resulted in a typical karst landscape, but it has a characteristic green landscape, and is defined by experts as greenery-covered karst. Fields are predominately agricultural and grassy, and the mountainous parts are covered in rich and dense forests of beech and fir, which at altitudes turn into zones of juniper.
